My health journey started 45 years ago when I was just 13 years old. I remember reading a quote from one of my favorite health heroes Paul Bragg that would ignite my passion for health and nutrition for the rest of my life. Why Grow Old? You are what you eat. What you eat now is what you will be tomorrow. Every 90 days you build a new bloodstream and every 11 months an entirely new body. That made so much sense to me at such an early age. Over the years I have read numerous books, many conflicting with each other, each expert more knowledgeable than the next. So who do you believe? Who is right? I remember reading a book over 35 years ago by health expert Pavo Airola called “Are you Confused?” And at that time with all the conflicting information, I was extremely confused. But over time, what I have learned is to do your own research and experiment to find out what works best for your body. Instinctively over time you will find your own answers. I also can’t help but notice that many of these so called experts died prematurely, but the three experts I’m about to mentioned lived well over the age of 80, and two are still alive, healthy and vibrant! These experts gave me gems of valuable information that I still use still to this day.
NatureBoy’s Favorite Health Tips
Tip # 1 (Paul Bragg): Periodic Fasting Paul would cleanse his body through periodic fasting 1 day a week, sometimes 7 to 10 day fasts during the seasons. To find out more about fasting check out his book, “The Miracle of Fasting” (which also happened to be my first book on health). http://www.bragg.com
Natureboy’s Tip: I fast one day a week to give my body a rest and to cleanse. I alternate different kinds of fasts: Water fast, Lemon water and raw organic honey fast, watermelon fast, vegetable juice fast, and greens fast using chlorella and spirulina, or a SuperGreens fast.
Tip # 2 (Jack Lalanne): “Use it or Lose it!” At 95 Jack still works out 7 days a week, 2 hours a day, 1 ½ weight training and ½ hour swimming. Check out more of this fitness fanatic at http://www.jacklalanne.com
NatureBoy’s Tip: Unlike Jack, I train 4 days a week heavy and intense weight training along with long barefoot power walks on my days off. This promotes muscle gains while keeping my body fat low. If you are not making the gains you want and are feeling tired and fatigued, chances are you are not recuperating enough. Many people over train and don’t know it. Sometimes less is more!
Tip # 3. (Jay Kordich) also known as the "Father of Juicing." Jay believes fresh vegetable and fruit juices are the foundation for health. He’s still going strong and looking great at 86 years young! For more info on juicing go to http://www.juicedaddy.com
NatureBoy’s Tip: Jay is the reason I have at least one fresh raw organic mixed vegetable juice a day. I believe fresh raw juices are essential to optimal nutrition and maximal well-being.
